Hybrid professional congresses with remote control room: a practical example.

In January 2024 we broadcast the 26th Bauleiter:innengespräche (site managers’ talks) of the Federal Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla e.V.) from the Ruhrkongress Bochum. The use of the remote control room demonstrates the advantage of this production technique in terms of quality and efficiency and is a complement for hybrid extension at existing technical service providers.
EXECUTION
Producing the livestream
With a fairly minimalist technical approach, a professional full HD livestream was produced. Two PTZ cameras were installed on a tripod at the end of the hall. The cameras were connected to our broadcast case, the local production company supplied a mixed audio feed and the projector images via an interface, and everything was sent together in sync over the internet to our remote control room.
Set-up and dismantling took place on the days before and after the event. The broadcast technology was “unattended” in so far as operation was carried out from the control room and, should intervention have been needed on site, colleagues of the local technical service provider would have stepped in. As expected, this was not necessary.
In the remote control room, the delivered images, audio and presentations were processed into a broadcast-ready video feed and streamed to the specially designed landing page, where online participants could receive it.
Landing page
For the broadcast of the congress, a specially designed landing page was created that contained both the player for the livestream and a Q&A tool.
The page and the player were created in our client’s design, and the event’s sponsors also found their place.
Access to the page was protected by a password.
Benefits
Using remote technology offers several advantages at once. On the one hand it is very efficient and budget-friendly. Technicians no longer have to be on site, and travel and accommodation effort is significantly reduced. Less equipment also has to be delivered and set up. On the other hand, the fully equipped remote control room offers considerable advantages in terms of quality and technical possibilities. Collaboration with existing technical service providers is also possible; the hybrid extension complements existing structures.
