The story of the partner at your side

A start on the brink, an unusual way out, a young team, innovative approaches and a lot of hard work are the foundation of our professionalism and reliability at the highest level today. What cameras on broomsticks and techno have to do with it, we are happy to tell you in an exciting story that covers the key milestones of our still young history. Our journey reflects not only the development of a company,
but also the change in an event industry that is becoming ever more digital.

Friday, 13 March 2020 – the world stands still and the people who are YEO today are standing at the professional abyss. It is the first day of a long Corona story on which it becomes clear that from tomorrow, nothing will work any more. The people behind today’s YEO are a nightclub operator, an operations manager who studied computer science, and an event technician. For all three it is clear: from tomorrow we are out of work and don’t know what to do next…

So what now? “Could we somehow take the disco ‘online’ tomorrow?” “Yes, we can. There is something called Twitch. We can stream there!” No sooner said than done: on Saturday morning the last two USB webcams were bought at the local electronics store.

With plenty of improvisation and even more love for what we actually do, the first “streaming setup” is built for that evening in the nightclub. It is one webcam on a broomstick, one on a bucket and a quickly configured PC. The first stream goes online and entertains the club guests, who are now sitting at home like everyone else.

Three months follow in which disco streams are organised regularly. The picture design becomes more elaborate and the technology more sophisticated. It quickly becomes clear that “streaming” will outlast Corona. Nobody can yet imagine what the future will look like, but everyone agrees: this is here to stay!

The first milestone for YEO is broadcasting open-air concerts on our own platform with a payment system. On 30 August 2020, the first concert of the “hof18” project is streamed live onto the internet. Viewers first have to buy a ticket through a payment system and are then unlocked for the stream.

The idea of not offering “art, culture and music” on the internet for free and of generating income again besides state aid becomes more and more real, and the implementation technically better. All the other open-air concerts follow, including the concert with Kayef.

The development of recent months pays off. Everything works in principle, and the team keeps developing, improving workflows and learning continuously. It is time to set up professionally in terms of structure as well: in November 2020, YEO – your event online is founded.

What began in spring 2020 with webcams on broomsticks and still looks rather chaotic becomes, in February 2021, the first professionally produced live online concert on our own payment platform with over 3,000 viewers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland:

“Beatrice Egli – Live online” from the Metropoltheater Bremen.

The YEO team plans the entire technical implementation, produces the concert and builds various extras into the project, such as the life-size cardboard audience or an exclusive online meet-and-greet with fans in the warm-up show. The result is an unforgettable concert experience. The next milestone has been reached.

Unfortunately, the principle of the “live online concert with payment system” did not catch on. Several productions in this area followed, but all of them were funded through grants, sponsors or as company events. Professional concerts on the internet still only take place abroad today, not in Germany.

The supposed setback was a short path into a small dead end. So we quickly took a few steps back, looked around and considered where we stood. In fact, we were not badly placed.

Through our work so far, the corporate sector had become aware of YEO. Enquiries came in from various companies, all with one issue: the pandemic was continuing, yet there were events that had to take place. Staff meetings, press conferences, shareholder meetings and professional congresses – there was plenty to stream.

We continuously expanded our equipment, built up knowledge, and our client base grew steadily. In the Corona years 2021 and 2022, online and hybrid events became a fixed part of many events, and even after the end of Corona in spring 2023 they are no longer something we can do without.

What arose out of necessity in 2020 is today a professionally positioned service provider for all questions around hybrid and online events. On our website we show you many examples of how we could support and accompany you.

And when we say sentences like this today: “The X4E sends all signals as an SRT feed at an RTT of 34 ms with a latency of 120 ms via PepVPN and the MBX with LTE redundancy to the X4D in our remote control room. There the PGM is created, including LTs, PiPs and GFX, which is then redundantly encoded to AWS ML, further processed by MP and finally made available and displayed on the landing page via CloudFront as a CDN for JW.” – then rest assured that we would not have understood that four years ago either.

But today we know that these abbreviations stand for the best solution for your task. It is about technology and services from companies such as Haivision, Amazon Web Services or Peplink, and thus about the technology leaders in the industry. We work with them, and with them we always find the best solution, which is guaranteed to fit your budget.

Just give us a call – with our story, nothing is impossible.
