Streaming for industry partners
When streaming at the highest level is required: our solutions after the control room.
For various industry partners we already offer individual streaming solutions from encoding to video on a platform or website. We work with the highest quality and fail-safety. We show what we understand by a redundantly built, highly available livestream. Here we present the complete process chain, which we can implement as a whole or in parts – depending on individual needs.
Encoding
Our work begins with one or more finished video feeds delivered via SDI.
We check the signals and arrange for necessary adjustments, in particular to the broadcast loudness according to EBU recommendation R 128.
For redundant encoding, the signals are duplicated and each routed to a Haivision Makito X4 SRT encoder. It converts the signal into an SRT stream, which in turn is sent to AWS infrastructure for further processing. The encoders are connected to a Peplink router via the primary network connection.
Internet connection
To build a redundant internet connection we use a Peplink MAX HD4 MBX. This is a powerful bonding router that can take up to 3 wired WAN connections, set up 4 LTE links of its own, dock twice onto an on-site Wi-Fi and use a further 2 USB mobile modems. In total, up to 11 internet connections are available, which are both bonded, i.e. combined, and offer redundancy in themselves, because if one connection drops, all the others keep working.
If required, a second router can be used to also protect against device failure, connecting the Makito X4 to it via the second network port.
AWS processing
Further signal processing takes place on AWS infrastructure. The entry point is AWS Connect, which receives both the primary and the secondary path of the SRT signal and forwards both paths to Media Live. In Media Live we use two redundant inputs, each of which switches over if a signal drops. In the event of a complete failure, Media Live would also switch to a fault slate, so that viewers are informed about the technical disruption and the livestream does not simply break off. From Media Live it goes to Media Package. This service is also built redundantly and provides the different resolutions and encoding bandwidths for the content delivery network. CloudFront is used as the content delivery network, making the content available for retrieval worldwide.
Video stream in the player
As the player we provide an iFrame that is embedded into a homepage or conference platform. The player retrieves the content from CloudFront and has functions such as AirPlay and Chromecast built in, allowing viewers to bring the livestream to smart TVs as well.
The player is completely customisable in appearance and functionality and is adapted by us for the respective platform.
Platform for the player
If no homepage or platform is available, we create a highly available landing page on AWS infrastructure.
For this we use, for example, load-balanced, automatically scaling EC2 workflows. This means the system scales resources up or down depending on usage and distributes website visitors evenly across the server instances. The result is a website that can handle any requirement.
We create the landing page individually to client specifications.
Remote production and intercom
Our streaming solutions are remote-capable. It is not necessary for our technicians to travel and monitor the systems on site.
At our Oldenburg location we have created all the prerequisites for optimal monitoring and control of our systems.
On request we establish the connection to the on-site production quite simply by phone, or offer an intercom connection that can be connected via our on-site systems to all common intercom systems. So we simply sit a few desks away, as if we were on site.
