Hybrid press conference for Niedersachsen Ports: a practical example.

For our client Niedersachsen Ports, we have been broadcasting the annual press conference on topics of the Lower Saxony port industry since 2022. In addition to the in-person event in Oldenburg, the conference is offered to journalists as a hybrid livestream.
EXECUTION
On-site production
On the premises of Niedersachsen Ports in Oldenburg, the presentations by the Lower Saxony Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport, Construction and Digitalisation and by those responsible at Niedersachsen Ports are shown on large screens for the journalists on site. The press conference with the presentations is recorded by one camera, an interface for the presentations and audio technology, and broadcast live. Most of the visual dynamics come from the simple but effective approach of taking several full HD image sections from a single 4K camera image for the control room, offering viewers attractive pictures in combination with the presentations.
Livestream
The livestream is transmitted to a password-protected landing page where invited guests can follow it. In addition to the livestream, detailed information on the press conference is available on the page as a download. During the event, viewers find next to the livestream player an agenda with the various contents of the press conference and a Q&A tool for asking questions to the press conference participants. The questions are sorted by topic by the moderator on site and then asked on viewers’ behalf.
Live links
Because unforeseen things can always happen, we have also implemented live links in the years we have supported the press conference. In 2022 the Minister for Economic Affairs and in 2023 one of the managing directors was connected both into the in-person event and the livestream, so that the presentation could still be held despite absence from the venue.
The live link with the Minister was realised in his office in Hanover via a camera with integrated send and return path, which transmitted his contribution to Oldenburg and the content from Oldenburg to him. The minister received the audio from Oldenburg through an “earpiece”, which made the link feel like a television interview. The link with the managing director was made via a common conferencing tool and was therefore technically simple but no less informative.
Benefits
With a simple single-camera production without great technical effort, Niedersachsen Ports reaches a target group of specialist journalists that is numerically limited because of the specialist topic and widely scattered across Germany. They no longer have to travel far and receive their information directly, as if they were present on site.
Live links enable important participants and speakers to take part with television-like quality, even in unforeseen situations. They are equally suitable when the diary is too full but an event should still receive the appreciation and attention it deserves.
